Elakala Falls is technically a series of four waterfalls; however, the first waterfall is the only one you can see from this trail and is 35 feet tall. Elakala is the 2nd most popular waterfall in the park, thus making this a really popular trail during warmer months.

It appears that the main Elakala trail is dotted along the way, but that’s about it. Three spectacular waterfalls are just a stone’s throw from the Blackwater Falls Lodge. The Elakala Trail begins near the lodge parking area, and after a short stroll through a forest of evergreens and deciduous trees, you’ll reach a footbridge spanning Shays Run. Cross the footbridge and continue along the Elakala Trail for 15 yards or so. Each of the other Elakala Falls get progressively more challenging to reach because there is no official trail and you will have to do some scrambling to get down into the canyon.
